Sinema Highlights Importance of Increasing Homeownership Affordability & Accessibility

Senator met with the Manufactured Housing Institute to discuss how manufactured homes help solve the affordable housing shortage and expand economic opportunities

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema met with Arizonans from the Manufactured Housing Institute to discuss proposals that make owning a home more affordable and accessible. "All Arizonans deserve access to safe, affordable housing. Arizona's production of manufactured homes helps create strong careers, strengthens Arizona's leadership in manufacturing, and expands affordable housing options – all while ensuring Arizona families have a safe place to call home," said Sinema. The Senator routinely meets with affordable housing leaders and advocates to identify lasting solutions to Arizona's affordable housing shortage. Last month, Sinema announced that $6,176,374 is coming to Arizona to strengthen affordable housing options for low-income Arizonans. In March, Sinema invited HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge – a former mayor – to speak with Arizona mayors and local leaders about solutions to the affordable housing shortage across the state. The Senator discussed the need to construct more affordable housing units to give families certainty and peace of mind. According to a December report from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, homelessness in Arizona rose by a staggering 23% from 2020 to 2022. At the same time, the median price of homes in Phoenix rose by more than $100,000 between January 2021 and July 2022 – illustrating the severity of the homelessness crisis and affordable housing shortage. The Manufactured Housing Institute is a U.S. trade organization representing companies and organizations that are involved in the production, sale, and financing of manufactured housing, prefabricated homes, and modular home units.
